Für unseren Trip nach Bali haben wir unser Equipment wieder etwas aufgestockt bzw. optimiert. Bisher haben wir alle Filmsequenzen mit Gimbal gefilmt. Nach dem wir uns einige Videos der neue GoPro HERO 7 Black angesehen haben, waren wir von den Möglichkeiten recht begeistert. Kurzerhand haben wir uns dazu entschieden, die GoPro HERO 7 Black über Gearflix zu mieten.

Für uns waren es die ersten Gehversuche mit einer GoPro. Insbesondere die Möglichkeit, ohne zusätzlichen Gimbal flüssige Videos zu erstellen und ohne zusätzliches Case eine wasserdichte (bis 10m) Kamera zu haben, haben es uns angetan. Der erste Eindruck war recht positiv. Die GoPro wirkt hochwertig und liegt trotz Ihrer geringen Größe gut in der Hand.

Die HERO 7 als Gimbal-Ersatz

Das größte Argument für die HERO 7 war die HyperSmooth Videofunktion. Wir schleppen mittlerweile so viel Equipment mit, dass wir gerne auf unseren Gimbal verzichten würden. Denn gerade auf Reisen ist die kompakte GoPro oft deutlich besser zu transportieren als der unhandliche Gimbal. Auf unserer Reise haben wir rund 30GB an Film- und Bildmaterial erstellt. Tatsächlich funktioniert die Stabilisation in den meisten Fällen richtig gut. Allerdings solltet ihr vermeiden, gerade wenn ihr frei Hand filmt, die Kamera zu stark zu bewegen. Ist natürlich etwas schwerer bei einer GoPro im Vergleich zum Smartphone am Gimbal. Wir würden das allerdings eher als Gewöhnungssache einstufen. Die Leistung der Hero 7 Black unter als auch über Wasser ist schon sehr beeindruckend. Vor allem was die Videoerstellung angeht. Am Ende des Beitrags findet ihr noch ein kurzes Video von unserem Trip nach Bali.

Egal, ob im Meer oder im Pool; die Kamera funktioniert bis 10 Meter unter Wasser und das ohne zusätzliches Gehäuse. Dadurch ergaben sich für uns einige schöne Möglichkeiten. Die Handhabung unter Wasser, insbesondere an der Wasserkante, entpuppte sich aber als umständlich. Wir hatten es uns so schön vorgestellt. Ein Porträt Bild – halb unter / halb über Wasser. Nun ja, sagen wir es so, die Realität machte uns da einen Strich durch die Rechnung. Der Touch Screen reagiert teilweise auf das Wasser, so dass wir uns öfter im Video als im gewünschten Foto Modus befanden. Und wenn die Go Pro dann mal unter Wasser ausgelöst hat, dann war das Bild als solches leider nicht zu gebrauchen. Das war in einigen Situationen wirklich nervig und lag auch nicht an falscher Handhabung unsererseits.

Der Fotomodus

Wie schon erwähnt, könnt ihr die GoPro neben der Video Erstellung auch zur Fotografie nutzen. Diese Funktion war für uns allerdings eher nebensächlich. Im Allgemeinen waren wir mit dem Fotomodus, wie oben schon beschrieben, auch nicht ganz so zufrieden. Der Weg vom Auslösen bis zum Bild ist relativ lange. Das heißt, dass die Kamera recht stark verzögert. Auch der HDR Modus kann nicht überzeugen, da schon bei der kleinsten Bewegung die verschiedenen Ebenen verwackeln. Das geht besser. Aber, auch die GoPro bietet einen RAW Modus, mit dem entsprechend mehr Spielraum in der Nachbearbeitung gewährleistet ist und durchaus auch gute Aufnahmen entstehen können.

Generell ist die Bedienung der GoPro recht fummelig. Der kleine Touchscreen fordert hier seinen Tribut. Auch hat sich unsere Hero 7 das ein oder andere Mal aufgehängt. Da hilft dann nur, den Akku zu entnehmen. Aber auch beim Öffnen des Akkufachs, hat man das Gefühl etwas kaputt zu machen. Man gewöhnt sich natürlich dran, aber das kann man durchaus besser lösen.

Das Fazit

Die HERO 7 Black ist zweifelsohne die bisher beste GoPro. Die HyperSmooth Video Funktion setzt einen neuen Maßstab. Auch im TimeWarp Modus lassen sich so flüssige und stabile Videos erstellen. Aber gerade die Probleme beim Einsatz im Wasser oder mit der Software stehen nicht wirklich im Verhältnis zum hohen Preis der GoPro. Trotzdem, wer eine kompakte Action Cam sucht, kommt um die GoPro nicht herum. Die softwarebasierte Stabilisierung kann einen Gimbal in vielen Situationen und mit etwas Übung durchaus ersetzen. Gerade dieses neue Feature bietet ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal. Im direkten Vergleich mit unserem DJI Osmo Mobile haben wir aber die Panoramafunktion und den Motion-Timelapse Modus vermisst.

Am Ende sind wir aus den genannten Gründen (insbesondere bei der Bedienung) froh, dass wir die Kamera nicht gekauft haben, würden aber bei Bedarf durchaus wieder eine mieten.
